The Controversial:
Chris Barnes was the vocalist, lyricist, and a large part of the creative force of the band on their first four albums. He was asked to leave the band being he spent too much time on his side project band Six Feet Under (US) instead of Cannibal Corpse.
Because of various complaints from teachers and parents who claimed Cannibal Corpse would be dangerous to children, the band is not allowed to play any song from the first three albums live in Germany. Those first three albums (especially Butchered At Birth) are not to be sold or brought into Germany in any shape or form. Cannibal Corpse has also became a center of attention during elections of the early 90's with the issue of censorship bought up. Due to the controversy surrounding Cannibal Corpse's music and artwork on albums, all of the albums come with alternate/censored versions artwork and music. The censored versions not only alter the original artworks but many times the tracklisting on the back will not include songs with more offensive titles and the inner jacket will not contain any offensive pictures. Cannibal Corpse used to give listeners a postal address where those with the censored covers could mail them for a picture of the uncensored cover if they wish.

The Story of Successful:
The band has achieved a lot for an extreme music act. Cannibal Corpse are the top selling death metal band in history (according to the records of Soundscan, that is.) They are the first death metal group to have platinum status in the world. The bands brief appearance in the movie 'Ace Ventura - Pet Detective' playing 'Hammer Smashed Face' certainly must've helped that fact. The funny thing about this is that Jim Carrey, Canadian actor/comedian, said that he likes death metal and Cannibal Corpse a lot and the movie production people wanted a death metal band in their soundtrack being death metal was ``the hot new thing`` to appear to the mainstream. It doesn't also hurt to mention that Cannibal Corpse's ``Vile`` album was the first death/extreme metal act to debut on the Billboard album charts, debuting at #122.

Notes from wikipedia ; Opeth is a progressive death metal band from Sweden. Opeth adds several lighter elements to their music with acoustic guitar interludes, and influences from jazz, '70s progressive rock and blues on top of a fast, churning death metal-esque sound. Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt performs both clean singing and death vocals (although on the first two albums, his vocals are actually more similar to the shrieking typically found in black metal). Due to their unique blend of melodic and progressive elements, they are said not to conform to typical death metal acts, or any other specific metal sub-genre. Opeth has also attracted a lot of attention from doom metal fans.
